CBD in history, and CBD now

CBD in history, and CBD now

Humans, history and CBD

CBD has been used by humans for thousands of years. Amazingly, a Chinese wellness text entitled ‘Essential Techniques for the Welfare of the People’ - which dates back from the sixth century AD - describes the process of cultivating hemp in great detail. Even more remarkably, archaeologists have discovered that the Chinese were using CBD 6,000 years ago, while the Indian and Siberian were using it as far back as 10,000 years ago. CBD has been relied on by so many of our ancestors that it could almost be said to be a human universal. It’s been used everywhere from ancient Rome to ancient Greece, through to ancient Egypt and the ancient Middle East.

Yet for us in the 21st century, it’s still a relatively new, and sometimes misunderstood, wonder. Why? It comes down to a piece of legislation that was passed in America only as recently as 2018: the Agriculture Improvement Act. After decades of unnecessary prohibition which prevented us using or learning about CBD, the Americans finally legalised CBD that is derived from hemp. Also, America was very careful to ensure the law stated that CBD products contain no more than 0.3% THC. And why is that important?

It’s important because CBD won’t get you high. But while it won’t get you high, it will heighten your levels of good quality sleep, it will heighten your mood by making you less stressed, and it will make you a higher performer at work. The scientific research - which is relatively young due to the legislation which prohibited it up until a few years ago - is becoming clearer and clearer on this. Scientists have verified what we have known for millennia: that a CBD-rich treatment has a beneficial impact on everything from pain and anxiety, through to sleep and depression.

But yet people are still hesitant to try and rely on CBD. Part of the reason for this is due to the stigma; people associate CBD with cannabis, and therefore the psychoactive properties of THC, but this is misguided. We know that CBD is different to THC, the chemical in cannabis which makes people ‘high’. Another reason for this hesitancy, however, is also the unregulated nature of CBD products; CBD is not yet classed as medicine, both in the UK and abroad. Personally, I have sometimes used CBD products of an inferior quality, and have been disappointed with the impacts. They have sometimes had little effect, and have not achieved what I wanted them to.

And that’s where we at Molecule come in. We ensure that we provide our customers with what they deserve: only the highest quality CBD products. All our products are triple-batch tested, meaning they go through rigorous scientific testing to verify that they are safe, and that they contain the quantity of CBD stated on the bottle. We source only the very best products from around the world, from trusted companies like Lady A, Kiskanu and CbdMD. Where other retailers attempt to cash in on the hype of CBD by selling cheap products with no effects, we want to provide you with only the finest and only the best, as your wellness is our mission.

If you are confused about CBD, or want to give it a try but don’t know where to start, fear not! On our website we have curated and collated our product range to gear towards specific issues you may be facing, whether you struggle with stress or sleep, or pain or focus. It’s our mission to help you, so don’t be afraid to get in touch with any questions, or pop down to our Notting Hill shop. Just like our ancestors before us, we firmly believe in the power of CBD, and we love sharing our knowledge and educating you about it.
